.:Games Completed between 1991 and 2004:.

This list is special as it covers over a decade of my life. I’ve tried to be as accurate and truthful as possible with this list. While it feels like an eternity ago that I last played some of these games, if I close my eyes and focus I can still walk through entire levels and sometimes even the entire games in my mind.

1991 – 1994:

I owned an NES, an SNES, a Gameboy and an Atari 2600. Most of the Atari games were either too difficult (Donkey Kong), impossible for me to figure out (Adventure, Superman) or seemingly endless (Cosmic Ark, Centipede, Missile Command).

If this were just a list of games I’ve played and not a list of games I’ve completed then it would probably be ten times as long. I didn’t have the attention span or patience to finish most games. I also wasn’t very good at writing down progress passwords, so there are a lot of games in which I never got further than the first few levels.

The Genesis games were played over at a friends house. While I liked the games put out by Sega, I’ve never owned a Sega console.

I got my first PC in late 1993. My parents bought me the Softkey Horror CD-ROM Power Pack containing Blade Warriors, Isle of the Dead and Frankenstein as well as the Software Toolworks Challenge Pack containing Robocop 3D, F-29 Retaliator, Push-Over, Epic, Paperboy 2, Might & Magic 2, D/Generation, Contraption Zack, and Chessmaster 2100. These games were very different from the console games I had been playing.

In early 1994, having heard of my new PC, a friend brought over the shareware version of DOOM. I was hooked on it immediately. The First Person Shooter is still my favorite type of game.

1995:

Although I had a PC, the Nintendo consoles were still my main source of gaming entertainment. I had a custom-built carrying case for my SNES so I could bring it and all my games over to my friends’ house. Since the SNES was top-loading it could be used without taking it out of the carrying case.

  • Doom: Knee-Deep In the Dead (PC)
  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
  • Earthworm Jim 2 (SNES)
  • F-Zero (NES)

  • Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)
  • Wolfenstein 3D (PC)

1996:

In 1996 I was still playing my NES and SNES quite a bit, but I wasn’t renting games as often as I used to and I wasn’t completing any of them. My focus had almost completely shifted over to PC gaming and the internet via AOL.

I used to prank call people and play the Duke Nukem 3D taunts at them.

  • Bubsy (SNES)
  • Descent (PC)
  • Doom: The Shores of Hell (PC)
  • Doom: Inferno (PC)
  • Doom: Thy Flesh Consumed (PC)

  • Mortal Kombat 3 (PC)
  • Rise of the Triad (PC)
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (SNES)

1997:

I bought a subscription to PC Games magazine this year. I still have the January 1997 Demo disc with Rocket Jockey, Hunter Hunted and The Neverhood. Later this year I would buy a subscription to PC Gamer magazine as well to feed my interest in all things PC Gaming.

Carmageddon got me in to metal music. Command & Conquer and Total Annihilation got me in to RTS gaming. Quake got me in to deathmatch and mods.

I was given a Playstation as a gift. I bought Resident Evil, one of only two games I ever bought for the system. The other game is Silent Hill

1998:

I subscribed to PC Accelerator magazine this year. I also borrowed Half-Life and Rocket Jockey from a friend, which are two of my all-time favorite games.

I was still playing games on my N64 and PSX, though I wasn’t buying new games for those systems anymore.

Oh yeah and MDK was like getting stabbed in the face with awesome.

1999:

This is the year I really started focusing on my music endeavors. I was slowly making the switch from the DOS-based Fast Tracker 2 to the Windows-based Jeskola Buzz Tracker.

Outside of Carmageddon 2 and Quake 2 deathmatch, I didn’t play a lot of games this year. I became quite obsessed with Quake 2 mods such as Lithium, ActionQuake and Jailbreak.

2000 to 2004:

Music became my main priority in these years. I graduated high school early and dated a few girls in this time period too.

In 2003 I started attending college courses. In 2004 I began working as a computer repair technician. I spent most of my free time writing music and hanging out with my friends, so very little gaming occurred.

  • Age of Empires 2 (PC)
  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 (PC)
  • Conker’s Bad Fur Day (N64)
  • Max Payne (PC)
  • Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (PC)

  • Postal 2 (PC)
  • Quake 3 Arena (PC)
  • Samorost (PC)
  • Sheep (PC)
  • Soldier of Fortune (PC)

In 2004 I upgraded my video card and processor for the sole purpose of playing DOOM 3 with better graphics. I also got a Steam account and Half-Life 2.
